Our members
We
attract members from all walks of life. Current members include professional
railwaymen, rail enthusiasts and keen railway photographers. Others
include - retired folk and those who just wish to re-live the golden
era of railways - whether they be memories of steam or BR Blue diesels!
Our Meetings
We
regularly attract high-quality speakers from around the country, many
of whom regularly have their photographs published in the national
railway magazines. Several Society members also contribute and thus
virtually all of our meetings feature slides, digital images, video
or cine film.
We
meet on the first Tuesday of each month, in the (upstairs) Duncan
Gray function room at the Conservative Club, Alexandra Parade, Weston
(behind and just along from the Floral Clock/ North Star replica steam
engine.
Meetings start at 8pm, and usually finish around 10.15pm having included
a break, during which refreshments can be purchased from the downstairs
Club bar.
The
premises where our meetings are held has an entry phone controlled
from the Club bar. Having gained access climb the stairs in front
of you and the Duncan Gray function room can be found at the top.
Whilst there is no car parking available at the venue, space can be
found during the early evening in nearby residential roads/ car parks.
Most town bus services stop nearby, and some country routes stop right
outside the venue, which is just over five minutes walk from Weston-super-Mare
Railway Station.

Other Activities
Each
July, instead of a meeting at the Conservative Club we use the longer
daylight hours for an evening visit to a local venue of railway interest.
In
the past these have included specially-run trains for the society
at the East Somerset, West Somerset, Dean Forest, Avon Valley and
Gartell railways, plus authorised visits to Westbury Panel Signal
Box, Foster Yeoman at Merehead Quarry, ARC at Whatley Quarry, and
visits to a number of industrial railway locations and the HST depot
at St Philips Marsh to view their railway operations.
Each
Summer we also have a day outing by coach. Past destinations have
included the Bluebell, Kent & East Sussex, Mid-Hants, East Lancs,
Great Central, Keighley & Worth, Severn Valley, Swanage, Brecon
Mountain and Welshpool railways, plus the Midland Railway Centre and
Crich Tramway museum.
